Woody scrambled up the bank. Sure enough in the distance he saw the farm. “Thank you Mr Vole,” he said, and then started off down the first field.

The farm seemed such a long way away. Woody reached the second field squeezed under the gate and ran on. Soon he reached the farm yard all out of breath and paused.

It had stopped snowing and the moon came out. By its light he saw the farm dog lying outside his kennel. He looked so large and fierce.

Danny the Collie dog noticed the mouse trying to creep past him without being seen. “I won’t harm you little mouse. My master feeds me very well so I have no need to,” he said.

Woody was very relieved. “I’m looking for my cousin Harvey the House-Mouse,” he answered.
